Improvement of Marsh Road and Baynard Boulevard Intersection

Thanks all for your attendance at the Annual Carrcroft Community Meeting held 6/4/2024. It was appreciated to see many new faces and witness such engagement by our residents. One main topic of conversation pertained to a series of possible improvements at the Marsh Rd. and Baynard Blvd. intersection. There were rumors of a traffic circle or stoplight, and obviously quite a bit of concern about the outcome of this project.

Below is a compilation of info from DelDOT along with an “outdated” traffic study from 2019 (1st link) showing the then proposal. Additionally there is another page (2nd link) with the active status officially listed on their website that contains few details. In either case the CCA Board would encourage our community members to reach out using the contacts listed for details or to express any lingering concerns. The more voices they hear from the more opportunity we have to influence the end result.

Please join us for the annual meeting and election of officers at the upcoming Carrcroft civic association meeting. This time we will be meeting in Faith Presbyterian Church (720 Marsh Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803) at 7:00 PM on the 2nd floor. The parking lot for this event is located at the back of the building; past the church. We expect to have a full agenda and several key attendees including Rep. Deb Heffernan and Councilman John Cartier.

Please spread the word. We hope to see you there!

Carrcroft Elementary - Safety Demonstration 3/27

Mr. Mark Overly (principal of Carrcroft Elementary) has informed us of the following safety demonstration.

——————————————————

We have a safety demonstration at Carrcroft next Wednesday from 9:40AM-12PM. The state police helicopter will be landing, there will be demonstrations from the mounted horse unit, K-9 unit, Motorcycle unit, SWAT command center, fire trucks, and an ambulance.

Easter Egg Hunt (and a polite plea for assistance with community activities)

Dear residents, March 23rd at 2:00 pm is the Easter Egg Hunt with a rain date of March 24th at 2:00 pm.

*** Punctuality is important as it begins on time and is over in less than 5 minutes sometimes, even with tons of eggs!  Our community is growing with a lot of kiddos.
*** Ages 0-12 years.
*** Bring a bag, bucket, or basket.

HELP NEEDED:
Is there a ‘younger child’ parent - or 2 parents to partner up - that would like to take over these 2 events? (Halloween parade and Easter Egg Hunt):  For the details on the easy guidelines/reimbursement for these events, please contact Angela at amm113@comcast.net

Nextdoor and why all social media is terrible.

We live in a day and age where it is far easier to disparage people without knowing the full context of those people’s circumstances and the individual challenges they face. The CCA Board is comprised of volunteers. Period. We take time and expend effort to improve our neighborhood because, well, we live here too and we take pride in our home. It is largely a thankless job. So, for example, when you observe that snowplowing has not been sufficient to your liking we encourage you to reach out via our contact page and please understand that patience is necessary because we are doing our best with limited resources.

This makes it all the more upsetting when people take to social media to chastise VOLUNTEERS who are taking action when a majority of the residents cannot be bothered to lift a finger. It is no fun pleading with people who fail to pay their dues routinely and then to be reprimanded by some of those same people about how the funds are spent and why CCA is not doing more. A better question would be to ask yourself what have I done to ensure our community is succeeding? How can I help?

Over the course of many years this website has been modified to include as much relevant information as is reasonable and while we try to cover everything here it is nearly impossible. There are yearly civic association meetings in which the entire community is invited to attend so we can cover all range of topics; including the financial statements and election of new officers who may have exciting visions for the future of our neighborhood. When these meetings are scheduled they are posted in the EVENTS and CALENDAR sections. But these meetings are only useful if people participate in good faith. Bring questions and concerns and be willing to converse in a friendly atmosphere. Be present and be engaged.

It is snowing. It is slippery. Be careful.

The snowplowing is performed automatically when the accumulation reported on www.snow.deldot.gov reaches three inches, as per our contract. There is more expected today and with the base of ice already on the ground the agency has been advised by the CCA Board to plow regardless of the final measurement. The plowing should start within a reasonable period after snowfall has concluded.

As always if there are any issues we ask for your patience and understanding while we work to resolve them. Take care and be safe.

Boil Water Advisory

The city of Wilmington issued a boil water advisory for parts of Bellevue and Brandywine Hundred on Wednesday as the Department of Public Works attempts to repair a water main break on Carr Road.

A Note About Awesome Volunteers

Special thanks to a number of individuals who contribute to our neighborhood’s success. For example, recently resident Phil Ford offered to spruce up the entrance signs; with additional plans to perhaps repaint them in the fall. We have a number of fine people that routinely pick up fallen branches and litter from the common areas. Angela May is stellar in managing many of the events enjoyed by our community (Halloween Parade among others).

There are no shortage of actions we can collectively take for the betterment of Carrcroft. If you have any ideas or suggestions (or importantly time) please contact the board using the link on this site.

Thank you 😊
